7. What are the four pictures on the homepage?

HEALTH - RWANDA

A piece of a new health clinic built in the rural countryside. It is part of the Partners in Health program to scale up health in rural Rwanda. Built by local laborers, it is the first clinic for this large community.

Each picture is meant to capture one of the three pillars of development: Healthcare, Education and Jobs. I took them during my field research.

EDUCATION - THAILAND

The Life Museum is an exhibit of petrified bodies of people who have succumbed to HIV/AIDS at the Buddhist AIDS Temple. It is arguable, but it is a piece of the Temple’s education tour. I’m standing with a woman I interviewed for my research. She like many at the Temple rarely leaves the Temple grounds for fear of discrimination.

EDUCATION - NICARAGUA

This is one piece of a very famous mural in León, Nicaragua. It symbolizes a 1959 massacre where the military fired upon a student protest killing five. The tombstone has the UNAN’s seal and the country and university’s flags lay blood ridden on the ground.

JOBS - NICARAGUA

These are bracelets that are made by the HIV/AIDS Self Help Group I’ve worked with through the years. It is a major component of their income generation program. I sell pieces at my speaking engagements.
